Glasses-Free
Natural viewing conditions without dissociating eyewear
Real Depth
Physical depth targets rather than printed stereograms
Wide Age Range
Designed for children, adults and older patients
A direct, intuitive way to assess stereopsis.
The patient identifies a target that appears in depth within a random-pattern field. Because the effect is created by a genuine difference in depth, testing can take place under natural binocular viewing conditions.
Observe natural responses
No test glasses obscure the eyes, helping the examiner observe eye movements, pointing and preferential looking.
Screen or measure
Choose rapid screening with the pocket format or quantify stereoacuity with the three-plate near test and FD2 distance test.
Accessible across ages
The simple target-location task is especially useful with young, shy or pre-verbal children and remains appropriate for adults.
Real depth, presented in a simple clinical task.
Each transparent plate contains random-pattern areas. In one area, a circular target is printed on the opposite surface of the plate, creating a true depth difference when viewed binocularly.
Present the plate correctly
Hold the plate square to the patient and above a plain background according to the test instructions.
Ask the patient to locate the target
The patient points to or looks toward the random-pattern square containing the circle that appears raised or recessed.
Screen or establish threshold
Vary target position and, when measuring stereoacuity, use plate thickness and viewing distance to determine the lowest reliably detected disparity.
Choose the right Frisby test
One family. Three clinical formats.
Select a portable screener, a comprehensive near stereoacuity test, or a real-distance assessment system.
Frisby Near Stereotest
Three transparent plates for glasses-free screening and measurement of near stereoacuity.
- Three plate thicknesses
- Measures approximately 600–5 seconds of arc
- Suitable for clinical assessment and research
Frisby Pocket Stereotest
A compact one- or two-plate format for rapid stereopsis screening in clinics, schools and outreach settings.
- Lightweight and travel-ready
- Natural vision testing
- Designed for fast screening workflows
Frisby Davis FD2
A specialist free-space test that measures distance stereoacuity using real objects as targets.
- Real-distance stereo testing
- Adjustable target disparities
- For orthoptic clinics, specialty care and research

Does the Frisby Stereotest require special glasses?
No. Frisby tests are designed for natural binocular viewing and use real physical depth rather than requiring polarized or red/green glasses.
Which Frisby test is best for pediatric screening?
The Pocket Stereotest is well suited to rapid screening and mobile programs. The three-plate Near Stereotest supports both screening and threshold measurement, including use with very young children.
